Degree Offerings

What undergraduate majors are offered through the Rutgers Off Campus degree completion program?
Each location offers a variety of majors.  Please refer to the Programs page to review current offerings and locations.

What undergraduate minors are offered through the Rutgers Off Campus degree completion program?
You can minor in any of the majors available at the location you attend, as long as that major is offered through the same Rutgers division you are registered with. Speak with a Rutgers advisor to learn more. 

Can I double major as an undergraduate?
It is recommended that you speak with the academic advisor at the your selected off campus location to determine the possibility of a double major.

What graduate programs are offered through the Rutgers Off Campus program?
Graduate programs are limited and vary by location. Please refer to the Programs page to review current offerings and locations.

Course Informat​ion

Are online courses available for off campus programs?
Yes, some online courses are available.

Can I take a course offered at one of the Rutgers’ main campuses?
Permission to take an on campus course (undergrad students) is granted on a case-by-case basis by the Manager of Academic programs at the location of choice.

Is the Rutgers Off Campus Degree Completion Program offered for full-time and part-time students?
Yes, you can complete your undergraduate degree at your own pace.

If the major I am interested in is not offered through the Off Campus program, what should I do?
If the degree you are interested in is not offered through the Off Campus Program, you should check to see if it is offered through one of the main Rutgers’ campuses.

Are the professors that teach at the off campus locations part of the Rutgers University faculty or community college faculty?
Professors teaching at the off campus locations are members of the Rutgers faculty.

Is the off campus faculty accessible for questions and assistance?
Yes, the Rutgers off campus faculty is accessible to students.

Requirements

Is an associate degree required to apply to an Off Campus degree completion program?
No, an Associate’s Degree is not required before you apply to the Rutgers Off Campus Program, but is highly recommended.  The number of credits required before you apply depends on the degree you select and the level of the courses you have taken. It is recommended that you speak to an academic advisor at your selected location for further clarification.

If I have 60+ plus credits from another university or a community college, can I apply to the Rutgers Off Campus Degree Completion Program?
Yes, you can apply to the Rutgers Off Campus Degree Completion program.

Is there a certain GPA that I have to maintain in order to apply to the Rutgers Off Campus Program?
You can contact the academic manager at the off campus location that you are interested in, or Rutgers University admissions, to discuss this question.

Are the requirements for acceptance into the Rutgers Off Campus Program the same as applying to the Rutgers main campus?
Yes, the requirements for acceptance in the Rutgers Off Campus Program are the same as applying to one of the Rutgers’ main campuses.

Is there a minimum number of credits that I must take every semester?
No, you can complete your degree at your own pace.

Application Process

Is the application process the same as applying to one of the Rutgers University main campuses, i.e. New Brunswick, Newark, or Camden?
Yes, the application process is the same as applying to one of the Rutgers’ main campuses.

Do I have to wait until I graduate from an accredited community college before I can apply to a Rutgers Off Campus Program?
No, you can begin to speak with an academic advisor at your selected off campus location as soon as you decide you want to obtain a four-year degree at Rutgers.

When are applications accepted?
It is recommended that you check the off campus location site of your choice for this information as it is subject to change.

Are the application deadlines the same as those for the main Rutgers campuses?
Generally, but it is recommended that you check the off campus location site of your choice for this information as it is subject to change.

If I am not accepted on the first attempt, can I reapply?
Yes, you may reapply if you are not accepted.

Is the course registration process the same as on the Rutgers main campuses?
Yes, the course registration process is the same for both the Off Campus Program and the Rutgers’ main campuses. Make sure that you apply to your program of choice on the off campus location site you will be attending.

Services

What services are offered at the off campus locations?
Off campus locations offer on-site academic advising and enrollment consultation as well as computer labs and access to the Rutgers University library system.

Is Rutgers staff available at the off campus locations to answer my questions?
Yes, Rutgers staff is available to answer your questions pertaining to the off campus programs.

Do I have to travel to one of the main campuses for academic counseling?
No, academic counseling is available on-site at the off campus locations.

Are computer labs and library services available at the off campus locations?
Yes, computer labs and access to the Rutgers University library system are available at the off campus locations.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Are the tuition and fees the same as those charged by the Rutgers main campuses, i.e., New Brunswick, Newark and Camden?
The tuition is the same, but the fees may vary. Click here for the tuition rates.

Is financial aid available for students who apply to the Rutgers Off Campus Program?
Yes, financial aid is available to students attending Rutgers at an off campus location. See Financial Aid for more information.

Am I eligible to use on campus facilities as an off campus student?
You will receive a Rutgers identification card as well as a Net ID which provides you with access to the same Rutgers facilities as an on campus student, i.e., library system, computer labs, gym, etc.  If you have a specific eligibility request, it is recommended that you check with your academic advisor at your selected off campus location.

Graduation

Does a degree from the Rutgers Off Campus Program have the same value as a degree from the Rutgers main campuses?
Yes, a degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey holds the same value regardless of where it was achieved. You will receive the same degree as those graduating from one of the main campuses.

Is there a commencement ceremony for off campus students?
Yes, but off campus students attend the Rutgers University commencement ceremony at the school of record campus.  For example, if you major in Criminal Justice from Rutgers-Newark, your commencement ceremony will be held on the Newark campus.

General Information

How long does it usually take for a student to complete an undergraduate degree through the Rutgers Off Campus Program?
Each student progresses at his/her own pace, so there is no definitive answer. Students may attend on a part- or full-time basis.

What are the benefits of obtaining a degree through an off campus location versus commuting to a Rutgers main campus, i.e., New Brunswick, Camden, or Newark?
The greatest benefit is the convenience of the off campus locations.  You can obtain the value of a Rutgers University degree at your convenience and at your own pace.  You have the flexibility of scheduling, the availability of online courses, and the support of the Rutgers staff and faculty.

What is the policy if I have to take time off from pursuing my degree?
The policy of Rutgers University applies if you have to take time off while pursuing your degree.

What is the policy if I want to transfer to one of the Rutgers main campuses – New Brunswick, Newark, or Camden?
You can transfer to a main campus, but this is determined on an individual basis assuming that all of the Rutgers University requirements have been met.

What are the differences between being an off campus student and an on campus student?
The main difference between the Rutgers off campus and on campus programs is the convenience of being able to pursue a degree from Rutgers University close to home at your own pace. The smaller faculty to student ratio gives off campus locations more of a community feel.

Is the ratio of students to professors smaller at the off campus locations?
Yes, at present, the ratio of students to professor is smaller at the Rutgers off campus locations.
